Jazz Solidarity Summer Nights

Event Image

We are delighted to invite you to the 1st jazz night organized by the Jazz Solidarity Network in collaboration with OPANDA, as part of the “Summer in Athens” Festival.

Three exceptional ensembles from the Greek jazz scene will offer us three unique approaches to improvisational music, in a magical evening at one of the most beautiful venues in Athens.

Line-up

MEREM: A group of young artists who have studied and worked abroad, presenting aspects of Mediterranean Jazz, mainly inspired by Greek traditional music, folk, and rebetiko. In 2023, they released their debut (self-titled) album and have since been touring in Greece and abroad to present it.
Members: Vanessa Kourtessi (vocals), Giannis Vagianós (double bass), Dimitra Metzaki (oud), Giorgos Bereris (keys), Ektoras Remsak (drums).

MENIOS GOUNARIS TRIO: This is the acoustic piano trio of the now well-established pianist and composer Menios Gounaris, which will present the album Set In Motion, released in 2022. The project’s style ranges from the Hard Bop era to more modern paths of Modal and Modern Jazz (McCoy Tyner, Ahmad Jamal, etc.).
Members: Menios Gounaris (keys), Grigoris Theodoridis (double bass), Panagiotis Themas (drums).

NANOT: A jazz, progressive-rock trio formed in 2019 by drummer and composer Thanos Chatziannagnostou, together with Thodoris Kotsyfas on guitars and Giannis Papadopoulos on keys. Their shared influences from their early musical steps and later careers shaped the band’s sound—a blend of 70s progressive rock and modern electric jazz (Camel, King Crimson, Weather Report, Return To Forever, etc.).
Members: Thanos Chatziannagnostou (drums), Thodoris Kotsyfas (electric guitar), Giannis Papadopoulos (keys).

Start time: 8:30 PM (sharp) – Free admission
