Το Greek Jazz Book είναι η πρώτη ψηφιακή πλατφόρμα “crowdsourcing” αφιερωμένη στις συνθέσεις της ελληνικής τζαζ σκηνής. Δημιουργήθηκε από το Jazz Solidarity Network (JSN) το 2024 και φέρει την αιγίδα και χρηματοδότηση του Υπουργείου Πολιτισμού (πρόγραμμα Επιχορήγησης Ψηφιακών Δράσεων Πολιτισμού 2024), με στόχο τη συλλογή και ανάδειξη πρωτότυπων συνθέσεων από εγχώριους καλλιτέχνες της τζαζ. Η έμπνευση πίσω από το έργο είναι το αυθεντικό Real Book, που συγκέντρωσε τις διαχρονικές συνθέσεις της αμερικανικής τζαζ και ανέδειξε τα γνωστά “jazz standards”.

Το crowdsourcing είναι μια διαδικασία συλλογής πληροφοριών, ιδεών ή πόρων από ένα μεγάλο αριθμό ατόμων, συνήθως μέσω μιας ψηφιακής πλατφόρμας. Αντί να βασίζεται αποκλειστικά σε μια μικρή ομάδα ειδικών, ένα έργο crowdsourcing ανοίγει τη συμμετοχή σε ένα ευρύτερο κοινό, αξιοποιώντας τη συλλογική γνώση και δημιουργία.

Στην περίπτωση του Greek Jazz Book, το crowdsourcing σημαίνει ότι οι συνθέτες-ριες της ελληνικής τζαζ σκηνής συνεισφέρουν τις πρωτότυπες συνθέσεις τους (παρτιτούρες και ηχητικά δείγματα) σε μια κοινή ψηφιακή βιβλιοθήκη, τις οποίες στη συνέχεια επιμελείται μια ομάδα εξειδικευμένων καλλιτεχνών προκειμένου να διαθέτουν μια ομοιόμορφη παρουσίαση. Έτσι, το έργο δημιουργείται από την ίδια τη μουσική κοινότητα, με στόχο μια πλούσια και αντιπροσωπευτική συλλογή συνθέσεων των μελών της.

The Greek Jazz Book is the first digital crowdsourcing platform dedicated to the compositions of the Greek jazz scene. It was created by the Jazz Solidarity Network (JSN) in 2024, under the auspices and funding of the Ministry of Culture (through the 2024 Digital Culture Actions Grant Programme), with the aim of collecting and showcasing original compositions by Greek jazz artists. The project draws its inspiration from the original Real Book, which brought together the timeless works of American jazz and established the well-known jazz standards.

Crowdsourcing is the process of gathering information, ideas, or resources from a large number of people—usually through a digital platform. Instead of relying solely on a small group of experts, a crowdsourcing project opens participation to a wider community, harnessing collective knowledge and creativity.

In the case of the Greek Jazz Book, crowdsourcing means that composers from the Greek jazz scene contribute their original works—sheet music and audio samples—to a shared digital library. These submissions are then curated by a team of experienced artists to ensure a consistent and professional presentation. In this way, the project is created by the music community itself, aiming to form a rich and representative collection of compositions that reflect the creativity of its members.
